 “Greece-Italy” Programme

The eligible region of the programme includes on the Greek side the following prefectures: Etoloakarnania, Ilia* and Achaia (region of western Greece), Corfu, Lefkada, Kefallinia and Zante (region of the Ionian Islands), Ioannina, Preveza, Arta* and Thesprotia (region of Epirus) and on the Italian side the regions of Bari, Brindisi, Taranta*, Foggia* and Lecce.

The Strategic Objective of the programme is defined as being the:  

  • Enhancement of the competitiveness and territorial cohesion in the region of the programme towards sustainable development through the connection of the potential from both sides of the sea border line.

For the implementation of the Programme the following Priority Axes have been set:

  1. Enhancement of the competitiveness and innovation:  Emphasis is given on the enhancement of applied research, which may contribute to the sustainable development of the region of the programme#
  2. Improvement of accessibility to sustainable networks and services: Increase of competitiveness and effectiveness of transfer and communication systems.
  3. Improvement of quality of life, protection of the environment and enhancement of social and cultural cohesion: Improvement of the quality of life of the citizens, promotion of the cultural heritage and the social incorporation, development of better ways to protect and manage environmental resources.
  4. Technical Assistance: Support of the entire management and the smooth implementation of the Programme.

The budget of the programme is 88.955.170 Euros, and is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).

* the prefectures of Ilia, Arta and the Italian regions of Taranta and Foggia are included in the Programme as adjacent regions with total projects expenses in every region not exceeding 20% of the total expenses of the programme.
