 Mediterranean Sea Basin Programme

The eligible areas of the programme originate from all the countries surrounding the Mediterranean Sea. 

The Strategic Objective of the programme is defined as being the:  

  • Promotion of sustainable and harmonious international collaboration of the countries of the Basin of the Mediterranean Sea in order to deal with common challenges and enhance the endogenous development prospective.

For the implementation of the Programme the following Priority Axes have been set:

  1. Promotion of socio-economic development and improvement of international collaboration: Focus on innovation and research in primary sectors of the region, creation of synergies between the countries of the Sea Basin of the Mediterranean Sea and enhancement of land-planning strategies.
  2. Promotion of environmental sustainability of the region: Preservation of common natural heritage, reduction of risk factors for the environment, improvement of energy performance and promotion of the use of renewable energy sources.
  3. Promotion of the best terms and conditions to ensure mobility of people, products and capitals: Support of people flow between the territories as a cultural, social and financial advantage and improvement of the terms and conditions of the transnational circulation of goods and funds.
  4. Promotion of cultural dialogue and local government: Support of the exchange, education and professional development of young people and all the forms of the dialogue between communities, as well as improvement of governance at local level.

The total financial participation of the European Union for the programme will be of 173.607.324 Euros.
