The Regional Operational Programme of Attica 2007-2013 is one of the 5 Regional Operational Programmes (ROP), which, together with the 8 Sectoral and 12 European Territorial Cooperation Programmes make up the National Strategic Reference Framework (NSRF) for 2007-2013.

The development vision of the Region for the present programming period is concentrated in the «Enhancement of the international role of the Region of Attica acting as a European Metropolis in the area of South - Eastern Europe and the Mediterranean Sea».

To achieve this in the timeframe of the 4rth Programming Period it is necessary to implement a series of interventions by the ROP which in combination with the exploitation of the Olympic heritage and the interventions from other Sectoral Operational Programs from the NSRF, will improve the attractiveness of the city of Athens and will reposition it in the list of cities that represent international business centres.

The objectives of the Program are:

1. Improvement of the attractiveness of the Region as an International Business Centre
2. Improvement of competitiveness of the economy through the encouragement of innovation, entrepreneurship, research and technology and the spreading and exploitation of new information technologies
3. Improvement of the quality of life and protection of the environment 
4. Opening of more and better job positions.

Funding for the Regional Operational Programme of Attica for the programming period 2007-2013 is 3.561 billion Euros while the Community Participation at 2.438 billion Euros and is financed exclusively by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
