Thessaly - Mainland Greece – Epirus
The Regional Operational Programme of Thessaly, Central Greece and Epirus is one of the 5 Regional Operational Programmes, which, together with the 8 Sectoral and 12 European territorial Cooperation programmes make up the National Strategic Reference Framework (NSRF) for 2007-2013.
The area designated for its application is the geographical unit of “Thessaly, Central Greece and Epirus”. The geographical unit is the central area of mainland Greece, comprising 3 regions: Thessaly, Central Greece and Epirus.
The strategic objectives and overall development vision of the geographical unit of “Thessaly, Central Greece and Epirus” for 2007-2013 is the strengthening of the competitiveness, attractiveness and openness of the economy by improving spatial and social cohesion and the adoption of sustainable methods for production activities and the management of the natural and constructed environment.
An important part of the development strategy for this geographical unit will be implemented through the assistance of the ROP of Central Greece, Thessaly and Epirus 2007-13, whose strategic interventions cover eight broad objectives:
- The improvement of competitiveness, openness, quality and the innovation capacity of enterprises.
- The improvement of accessibility by creating and upgrading infrastructure and intra-regional and inter-regional transport networks.
- The development of human resources.
- Sustainable management of the natural and constructed environment and natural resources.
- The enhancement of intra-regional economic and social cohesion.
- The strengthening of interregional cooperation.
- The development of tourism and culture for sustainable development.
- The promotion of digital convergence
Funding for the Regional Operational Programme of Thessaly, Central Greece and Epirus for the programming period 2007-2013 is 1.8 billion Euros (the total amount of public expenditure) of which 1.1 billion Euros represents the Community Assistance.
